e² supports sustainability education in Mexico

Freudenberg employees say volunteering at NEEDED Instituto de Rehabilitación al Maltrato de Menores has been very rewarding. e² has funded a variety of sustainability efforts at this facility since 2022.

After a child experiences abuse, the basic needs must be prioritized. That means programs that aren’t seen as a necessity are often overlooked. In Mexico, Freudenberg’s e² program is helping fill that void by funding programs that are enhancing the lives of young people and preparing them for a greener future.

NEEDED Instituto de Rehabilitación al Maltrato de Menores serves as a safe place for children who have been abused. After supporting the organization in establishing much needed recreational spaces, since 2022, e² turned to supporting NEEDED with sustainability focused educational programs for the children, the installation of solar panels, upgrades to the septic system, and enhancements to classroom technology. “I believe these kinds of projects are important for everyone,” said Jazmin Alvarez, Human Resources Manager, Dichtomatik.

New technology has enhanced the classrooms for primary students.

Programs around sustainability were designed for primary students.

Solar panels were installed on the roof of the facility making the energy consumption more sustainable.

The new technology is increasing educational opportunities for the children.

e² is designed to help improve the environment and enhance educational opportunities around the world. An added benefit of this program is that Freudenberg employees can engage in volunteerism to see firsthand the impact of e².

Alvarez has volunteered at NEEDED with her fellow Freudenberg colleagues and says being around the girls there has impacted her in ways she never would have anticipated.

“You realize that maybe you are thinking you have problems but when you go to these institutions and see what the problems are and see the faces of the children and they have a positive attitude, it changes your mindset to be a better person,” said Alvarez.

Throughout 2023, Freudenberg employees from various Business Groups in Mexico will continue to meet monthly with the adolescents at NEEDED as part of this sustainability education program. During those sessions, they will share information about alternative energy solutions, promote financial literacy, discuss entrepreneurship, and share ways we can all be more sustainable.

We are infinitely grateful for your support and trust.

There are many classroom style lessons, but NEEDED is also incorporating some interactive lessons that can be implemented directly into the children’s daily lives.

For example, teaching them how they can conserve water while doing things like simply brushing their teeth.
